Art Newsletter 02

The weeks since my last newsletter feel like days. But this have been a very productive time and being busy is what I love most.

I think the most exciting thing that happened on the art front is my very first Wales exhibition. I was contacted by the director of La Mostra Gallery in Cardiff, Wales about my work some months ago and later invited to take part in a joint exhibition together with four other artists from Italy, Australia and the U.K.

Since this is the first time my work have been exhibited in Wales and I'm more than excited about this new exposure. La Mostra Gallery will continue to represent me after this exhibition and there are possibilities in the air about a solo exhibition of my work in the not too distant future. So watch this space....

On the sculpture side things are not standing still either. I have recently paid a brief visit to the Annual Indiana Limestone Symposium near Bloomington and brought back several pieces of the most beautiful limestone, picasso marble as well as some portoro marble. As I am sitting here my hands are itching to go and grab the grinder, so hopefully the 'sculpture' section of this website will soon be expanded.

Someone recently suggested that I should describe some of my works. This seemingly simple task I find quite challenging. I have often said that I prefer my work to be experienced rather than disected with words. If there is talking to be done, I'd much rather leave it to the art critics since I know they are much more comfortable in doing so.
However I have decided to attempt talking a little about my most recent painting titled 'Shades of falling' -a 25 x 33" oil painting on canvas.

Title:

Why 'Shades of falling'? Titles have a way of choosing my painting rather than me choosing the title. This was one of those that came to me and gave me no choice of letting it have this piece.

Theme:
I am often described as being 'too emotional' (like most females maybe) but what is left if one cannot experience to the fullest? I see creating as a type of spiritual therapy and by expressing the moment in the most honest way possible is what I experience as beauty. By allowing oneself to recognize, feel and then express in sheer honesty is what I see as spiritual growth.

Composition:
Simplistic… focus to the right to emphasize the theme. Vertical lines let the eye move from head to feet and so on and so on…

Use of color:
I think that's enough from me on this piece.

On the personal side, in my previous newsletter I have mentioned the little house in the woods that TJ and I fell in love with. Well, the story had a happy ending and we finally signed the closing in April. Since then I have caught myself with one hand painting a canvas and the other the walls. This little place have proven itself to be even more challenging than we anticipated, but we love every moment of our adventure in turning the little fallen apart place into a 'home' again.
