Since my last newsletter
I think I have worked in a greater variety of mediums than ever
before in such a short period of time. Firstly in August I have
finished a commission for a marble sculpture; 'Andromache'. Returning
to this medium was like spending time with your best friend after
years apart and realizing again how at home he/she could make you
feel. Fallowing are some images of the completed piece. I also tried
to keep track of all the stages this piece of stone went through.

In
October my work was on display at the Manchester Art Show by La Mostra
Gallery. Shortly before this event my palette went bright (probably
due to the first fall in our forest like garden) These two pieces
were born as the first two in a series I hope to return to shortly.
During the same time I was also privileged to be the featured artist
of the Images of eyes gallery. This is the Internet's only fine art
gallery where the focus is on images and paintings of eyes by international
artists (www.Imagesofeyes.com) |

During
November I entered the annual juried exhibition held by the Richmond
Art Museum (Indiana, U.S.). All three works entered were selected
for this exhibit by juror, Homer O. Hacker and will be displayed in
the Museum until 16 Dec. 2004. |

The
last of these three was probably the most interesting as far as mediums
used. It consists out of a collage, drawing, oil painting as well
as a photographs created on a 3/4 inch solid wood board. It is covered
with a sheet of carved plexiglass. There is about a 1/4 inch space
between the plexiglass and the wood surface designed to give the piece
depth as well as movement. My aim was to create something on the theme
of art and creation itself. I wanted to bring together some of the
art movements, styles and mediums that played fundamental roles in
art as we know it today. Everything was brought together with a background
photograph of Montmartre that I took during a visit to Paris in 2002.
I found this to be the ideal backdrop for this piece due to the huge
role this area played in the history of so many of the most well known
artists as well as for Paris artists today. |

While on the subject of art mediums. I have to mention that I have
also explored a new medium a few weeks ago. Although I have done
a few metal sculptures in 1998, I have never really used a grinder
as sculpture medium as I have in "Metal Ballad". An abstract
nude female figure sculpted on a 3/16 inch thick solid steel plate.
In the making of this piece four different types of sanders were
used together with 4.5" and 9" angle grinders as well
as a dremel. The completed artwork weighs about 11 pounds.
Since I always have so many new works and I am usually a little
ahead of my website I decided to add a new section to my site, 'New
Artwork' where I hope to add al my newest works as they come
off the easel.
