Welcome to my playground.
While being a figurative artist for over 20 years, I occasionally dabbled in abstraction but recognized these attempts as subpar. It was when political tensions in the US peaked in late 2020 and the Covid pandemic soared that I drew inspiration from those events unfolding. Representational work seemed unequipped to express my thoughts and I gave way to impulsion. These small works (6x6”) are done with mixed media (mostly oil & graphite) on paper like the pages of a diary. Each the sincerest expression of my state of mind for that hour as I rode waves of turmoil and joy. The small scale enabled me to accurately capture these moments in time before they passed.
Since 2020, I keep returning to these, sometimes as a place to play and take risks. Sometimes as a release and other times as a form of therapy.
