This series explores the emotional complexities of the human subject through the lens of my own personal experiences. I don’t think of my figures as ‘nudes’ but honest, vulnerable and raw without an armor or protective covering. My approach to my subjects is visceral rather than intellectual.
To me, there is something tender in the intimacy of shared challenges. Often we are encouraged to suppress difficult feelings rather than acknowledge them. I believe there is power and healing in being vulnerable. During challenging times, my work became the raft that saved me from insanity.
Often, the process of creation leaves me feeling exposed and vulnerable and it is then that I know I have created something meaningful. I have learned to view vulnerability not as weakness but as courage and the price of a meaningful life.
