For the substrate of these pieces I used cast concrete, a process for which I had to persevere for about 5 years to accomplish the right mix, reducing the weight while achieving the desired strength and finish. I had more disasters than successes but finally I finally have the product I hoped for. To me, the concrete represents both strength and delicacy due to its brittle nature. Onto the cold, hard surface I juxtaposed flowing organic shapes. I vertical compositions indicate growth and strength. These were not planned but I allowed myself to be open to the piece and follow the direction it indicates.
